Trip to the CA Coast

Today was a fun day! First off we attended the tribe's 3rd annual trip to Salt Point State Park to gather, clean and dry seaweed for the Language Camp that will take place in August. Unfortunately, we got there too late to actually collect the seaweed, but we did get to have lunch with everyone and enjoy the gorgeous coastline.

We got to sample some of the seaweed harvested last year, as well as some fried abalone. Both are pretty tasty.

The park ranger told us that our pass into Salt Point was also good for entrance into Fort Ross, which is only a few miles away. I really wanted to check it out, and I'm glad we did.

Fort Ross was a fur trading company, so we got to see and feel many different pelts. The lady working in the trading post was Kashaya Pomo, and she gave us a lot of information about the people in this area. She also said a few phrases in Kashaya that we could actually understand! Such a fun experience.
